5.25 Component speakers
« on: 26 April 2006, 09:15 »
Hi All

Need a bit of advice on some component speakers. Gonna fit the mids in the standard door pocket positions and the tweeters in the dash location on my Mk2. Just wondered what you thought of these speakers.

Haven't heard anyone say anything good about infinity speakers apart form the site's that are selling them! I found these for £85 delivered and have a budget of £100. Anyone got any opinions or can recommend anything else?

Was gonna run them with this

why bother running mids and tweeters with an amp?, it would be aswell to just hook the amp up bridged to the sub only, then wire ths components direct from the head-unit, componenets look ok tho, can't go far wrong with those.....

I think infinity is regarded as good stuff but I've got a pair of Vibe SA - K series and they can be run as components or as co-axle and I'm very happy with them very tight sound and good clarity all round, I thought they were very good value for money. I ran them off my head unit (Alpine 9833r) and it sounded fine so I didn't put a amp on them. Take a look

Cheers for the replies. Thought I would have to amp them to get the best from them, but if I don't that's even more money for the girlfriend to waste . Had a look at the Vibes do they come with a seperate crossover? Would rather go with something that someone has had and can personally recommend rather than an unknown. What's everyone else running any other suggestions?

seeing as you've saved on the amp, i'm using these, they're spot on, if a little expensive...

The vibes come with in-line crossovers so its just a case of wiring them up correctly, the speaker wire go's into the crossover and 4 wires come out the other side. The only thing you may have to do is extend the wires for the tweeter or midrange depending on how far they are apart (one in the dash and the other in the door e.c.t), I had them in the front of my last car and when I get round to it they'll be going in this one. I'm gonna fit them as coaxial and in time mite be moving the tweeters into the round plastic button's that blank off the window winder holes, I thought about putting the tweeters in the dash and the mids in the door's but to me that seems too far apart (could be wrong though !). Then I'm just gonna put my sub in the boot and see how it all sounds, I also thought about having two pairs of coaxial's in the front, in my previous golf I just had the dash mounted speakers as there were none in the doors. I would be interested to see if anyone has fitted two separate pairs in the front and what they sound like !
