Right I thought I would share my experience with you incase you're having the same problem..

About 8 weeks ago on the M4 I got a great big crack in the windscreen.. National Windscreens eventually turned up a week later with a beautiful green tinted glass unfortunately it did not match my blue tinted one.. after saying they have to get if from the dealer.. and numerous calls they eventually fitted a clear heat insulated windscreen to my GTI

I have now complained and they say no such glass exists.. I checked the vw website which quote "The GTI derivative of the Golf Mark 5 comes with a huge array of standard equipment including, ‘Monnza alloy wheels, front fog lights, halogen clear headlights, heat insulating blue tinted glass, rear roof spoiler, aluminium and leather finished interior features"

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/used_cars/models/golf_mk5_hatch

I also called VW parts and gave them my chassis number and they say its a green tinted glass not blue.. but I know its blue I can see it!!! So now I'm awaiting a call from the National Windscreen's Manager who will check the colour of the glass on Monday.

Any advice would be much appreciated.. I'll also keep you posted on my progress with replacing my windscreen with the wonderful blue tint.

24-April-2006... been on the phone with National Windscreens and my insurer.. National Windscreens insist that they have fitted the correct colour windscreen according to the chassis number.. anyone know whats my best option on getting a part number for the GTI windscreen?..I've checked in with my local VW parts dealer and they told me my chassis number matches a green tint!!!

Apparently they get the part information from the manufacturer.. the GTI has been out for awhile now so I'd expect it to be updated.. but even when I called VW and gave them my chassis number they told me it was a green tint not blue tint ;-( so I'd expect someone like National Windscreens and Autoglass to be working off the same information..

So what is the solution? Do you have to accept the green tint?

Like hell I will!!! I will die trying to have it replaced with the nice blue tint  .. I have now called a different VW branch who were more helpful gave me a part number 1K0845011BD.. which they said was for rain sensor blue tint.. etc etc I've asked National Windscreens to kindly fax me a copy of their order form so I can compare part numbers..

I will do!!.. just been off the phone with National Windscreens.. they still saying its the same piece of glass and waiting for their area manager to call.. still not received the part number from them.. and they also claim that they are not willing to loose £300 on the windscreen already fitted and that I also signed the job card.

This is a useful site if you ever wondered what your VIN number meant.. I might post this in a different thread heading for everyone's benefit..

My GT TDI randomly has blue driver and passenger door glass (it's a 3dr).  The windscreen doesn't have any tint.
Is this normal?
