mk2 16v gti misfiring problem

hi am in desparate need for some help firstly my ignition module packed up so i replaced it . Have also replaced the plugs leads,distributer cap,rotary arm ,coil,air filter but it is poppin and mis firing between 3000 and 5000 revs still .My next move was to change the distributer but would appreciate any suggestions ,just hope you can understand my desciption of what its doing  . many thanks lisa

Welcome to the forum.

Might be the hall sender in the dissy going they tend to do random things at random speeds. it has a plug conected with three wires on top of the dissy, try taking the plug off and cleaning the contacts this may fix it if not someone will know whats involved replacing it.

try having a tinker with the distributer, sometimes they just get a bit gunked up and then throw the timing out. Also the idle screw might need adjusting. Whereabouts you based? as someone from here might be in the hear area and be able to have a look.

yeah id say dizzy aswell i had a problem wit mine popping and backfiring it was also losing power don't know if this is the same problem you are having but worth looking at the dizzy id say.

and check your vacuum hoses and timing of the engine

hi well have tried these things vaccum hoses am not too sure about how to check them , but i have bought a distributer and it is doing exactly the same , the guys at the garage have said it might be the ecu or a fuel problem so am none the wiser just 130 quid out of pocket as they will not take the distributer back so i am well and truly shafted any other ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks everyone lisa

Refering back to your first post, was there a misfire before you replaced the ignition module? I think you know where this is leading!
