I put a VR6 in this week and even with the front completely off it wasn't straight forward. But I guess it is a bigger engine.

Are you putting another 1.6 in?

No 1.8 Driver lump (carbs and Cam in  the next few months should put me around GTI performance.

The car gets pushed hard on the street (lots of roundabouts around these parts) and ive not had problems with brake fade, However ive bitten the bullet, Sold a few things on E-Gay and got my self some new disks and pads for the event.

Engines still not in. Ants been 'too buisy', Im not a happy bunny! if the cars not ready by friday i loose out on £95 in tickets and track time alone and me and my girlfriend miss out on probally the only time we are going to have away this year  So things are a little rushed. However my "You provide the graphics ill provide the car" advertising scheme has worked, As of thursday it will have a large number of company logos and phone numbers splashed down the side.

hahahaha fielders a c**k. sorry but he is just a tit. What a waste of forum space for that moron.

Further problems with the conversion...
Well as some people said before, It seems taking the front off the car does make it easier.

Kev owns Cruise-herts, the car club my car is representing, If my car cant make it he looses one of his main cars for the show stand and the race track, Hes a very competant macanic who squeezed 350BHP out of a 1.4 RenaltR5 turbo lump and just built a Mk6Fiesta Cossworth for one of of our sponcer companies (ice and styling). Hes also fedup with how things are going so he managed to get the keys off of ant and is putting in some hours into my car today.

Problem is it was some how overlooked that my car has power steering....and the other car does not, So this means the pullys have to be moved from my old engine onto this new motor, also a siezed hub on my car has hindered things more so the hub from the doner car is going to have to be carried over. depending on how much progress can be made today some major over-night work might need to be put in over the following few days, I beleave (although im not sure) that the sheer size of this conversion has been over-looked by myself (as i was lead to beleave it was a simple block and tranny trade) and by others involved. Although the lenghts and effot kev is going to to get my car back on the road is amazing. The poor guy has alreayd put in a 6am-10pm shift at his work, Is working on my car all night and also has to re-spray his new Lexus Sourer in time for friday...Talk about deadlines!!!

hahahaha fielders a c**k. sorry but he is just a tit. What a waste of forum space for that moron.

I take it you know about bedding in the brakes before you hit the track otherwise you are going warp them.

Kev has done a cracking job today and has been working on it solid since 11am this morning phoning and texting me pictures every two hours so i know whats going on.

It seems my hubs have caused some problems as there siezed etc. So instead the disks and pads have been moved onto the doner cars brake setup and this will be moved along with the drive shafts onto my car. Ive spoken to him about bedding in times and we are going to swap the brakes over anyway, If im not happy with them by the time we get to the track we will switch them over. Im going with a group of about 15-20 macanics and panal beaters etc on friday night so we shouldnt have any problems (we will also have a support truck carrying a few show cars, the Show stands models, DJ equipment and a few other items).

The engines now out of the other car and sat next to mine. The engine will be dropped into my car tonight along with a new subframe. It appears when my car was reversed into it pushed hte bumpers back a little bit which has damaged the subframe. The bodyshop simply welded this togeather as the bolts threaded. Instead of this kev has removed the welds in favour of replacing anything damaged. Im in the process of prepping and primering my new grill ready for going to the paint shop to be painted black. Kev is currently eating his dinner at the moment, Then will head back to the farm to put in another 4 hours!

All that will be left tomorrow will be fluids, connecting up the vairious cables and wires etc and starting it up for the first time to make sure everythign works. The only downside is the 1.8 driver did not have PAS, so there are no mounting brackets for the power steering motor and pullys, Apparently it is possible to set this up but it will take another day and we will be cutting it REALLY thin. So instead the PAS will be ditched in favour for the manual steering rack and a text message being sent to my girlfriend saying "have taken PAS out of fielders car, He will have to use his muscles more now....Im sure you will enjoy that "

If i hear anything else ill add it to this thread. Also a chap from the local sign writers came today to take messurements of the car, a local friends Plumming buisness will have its name and phone number plastered down the side for the show

if youre changing the engine doesnt the origonal engine have the pas pump already on it? with belts etc?surely you can just unbolt the pump and swap it over?isnt it the same set up as a gti?

the doner car is a 1.8 driver. My car was originaly a 1.6CL. The 1.8 block does not come with the mounts for the PAS pump etc, There both the same age car so i dont think its an age thing. For some reasion its has also turned out my entire subframe has rusted through underneath. So this is being ripped out and replaced as well....Which is gonna cost me more money apparently.

Im currently halfway through painting a new de-badged grill for the show as well as the old one has snapped.
