Induction kit help please!
« on: 27 November 2003, 12:44 »
I have just fitted a induction kit to my 1991 8 valve golf gti, Is it a must to have the hot air pipe going to the filter?

Hot air doesn?t carry as much oxygen as cold. Cold air has a greater density than hot which is what you want (more oxygen bigger bang)
Jedi16V is spot on with his advice.

The hot air pipe is there to stop the throttle body freezing. That doesn't usually happen much in this country.

Mr Golfvr6, cheers you answered my question - I should have been more accurate in my original forum question! It was the freezing of the fuel that was worrying me! but I will try it without the hot air pipe and see!

Cheers everyone!

The fuel won't freeze , its added just before the inlet. Unlike carbs where the fuel is added earlier. Later cars have a coolant heated throttle body, well mine does anyway!

Its there because of the venturi effect makes the air charge colder as it rushes down the plenum chamber. In all honesty it has to be bloody cold to get a real benefit from having it there and even then thats why you have a fifth injector.

And its very rare for fuel to freeze. It just drops out of suspension with the air.
