89 8v engine mounts
« on: 04 April 2006, 10:40 »
Ok, i know this question gets asked a lot & i have searched around for answers, but more or less every thread points to a differnt way of going about upgrading the engine mounts. Im not really intersted in buying these vibratec mounts as it will work out more than what the cars worth. Do i just go to euro or gfs and get a standard set, or is it a good idea while i am doing the job to use ones of a td/16v/g60, if so which ones? Your opinions are greatly accepted, thanks. Tom

I've decided on the following setup - Solid front mount, G60 rear mount and standard Gearbox mount.

May later upgrade the gearbox mount but I'm just holding back at the moment for a 2.0 engine before fitting it all together with the new wishbones, poly bushes, ball joints and track rod ends  so will let you know how it all feels together (should be in next couple of weeks, newborn daughter permitting)

Regards

Ian

Aye solid front, 16v/G60 rear and bonded rubber gearbox are a good combo for reduced engine movement without excessive vibration.  Mr.Brown on here sells solid front mounts for a bargain price, and visit AVS for the rest:

Sorry, don't mean to hijack, but I think I need at least a new front engine mount too cos the car jumps a fair bit when I come off the power and the engine does seem to be trying to climb out of the bay when I hold it at the biting point!

Thing is, I don't really wanna spend £50 on a solid front mount, I'd be happy with a normal one as long as it stops the jumping etc. Is it worth getting a diesel/16 valve mount or just getting a direct replacement? Probably gonna go to GSF or Volkspares.....

Also, when I look down at the engine mount from above, on the left hand side near the oil filter there are 2 brackets that don't quite line up (although they look like they probably should). Is there supposed to be a bolt through here, cos there isn't on mine? Just thought than might contribute to the excess engine movement........

Come on Jonny, I know you wanna help me

A solid rubber mount is probably worth a try, its what I've got on my GTI :)

As for that bracket, it sounds like there should be a bolt there but I can't picture what you mean, could you take a piccy?

lol, I knew you'd come to my aid dude

I'll try one of those then - now £17 I can deal with!

I have got a pic, but i can't work out how to attach it - I assume I'm gonna have to set up a photobucket account and link to that?
