if it turns into another baiting session then guess where this thread is going.

There has been plenty of debates and discussion about it, outcomes is always the same. We both love them for our own reasons no one is right over the other.

Good Shout Slick - Lock this topic as well. One point though, Ben resurrects a dull subject and then continues to add further comment to it. This is very silly.

I, like many I suspect, bought the best mk2 gti I could find. I didn't care which engine it was - if I wanted a great engine I'd have kept my Honda Accord Type R which was the starship enterprise compared to either mk2 VW engine (and to  the new mk5 ones too!). I wanted a Golf, and always have, because it's a classic car - it looks and handles so well that it's just lunacy to buy one for performance. It's not a poor man's car either - it's one I choose to drive. If it had been £5K I'd still have had it. Some things cannot be explained by way of valves or horsepower.

Enjoy your motorcars gentlemen - in 20 years there won't be any remotely like these except in museums and you'll be arrested if you even turn the key without a permit.

this shouldnt be an argument, like macky said buy the car for what you want it for, but appreciate the 16v head is better than the 8v head, its a fact and not worth arguing about.

blah blah torque, blah blah rpm.

Who cares? TBH, if I could have afforded it, I would have bought a 16v, but as 8v GTIs are cheaper, thats what I have.
But yeah, the 16v has a much better head design...

At the end of the day, shooting around twisty country lanes at 4000-5800 revs is what its all about.

Now quit it with the argument/debate and do what you lot do best, help out us eejits with our Golf probs...
