Suspension Advice
« on: 24 November 2003, 16:58 »
Hi there,

Have had Sachs gas shocks fitted to my 8V with the famous Boge springs but in a matter of 2 weeks had to dump the springs as the ride was really choppy and bouncy.

I now have the shocks together with the original springs and the ride is smoother but still get the bouncy choppy ride on uneven back roads, is this normal or would i get a better ride if i match the shocks with Eibach springs.

Any advice appreciated.

Eibach springs are top quality, if you can afford it then put them on.

I got Koni + matched springs,  still a bit of a sway going on.
I'm guessing that it could be the anti-roll bar is a bit tired (?)

Probably the anti roll bar bushes.

How much stiffer would the Eibachs be if I went 20mm compared to standard?

Also regarding 2XMk2GTI8V the sway you are getting is probably caused by the bushes that link the anto roll bar to your wishbone, try getting all the bushes changed. I got mine done and when i had the lowered springs the car cornered totally flat! Now I have the old springs on I get a bit of sway.

the eibachs will stiffen the ride but wont compromise comfort

Why not a set of supersort goldline coilovers. ?390, 30% uprated dampers and you can drop the car so its ''2Low4AFatHoe'' 120mm low in other words.  ;D
