Ahh right im in chester a bit too far away to look at it for you
But if you get a decent mechanic to look at it they should be able to check and adjust the timing if its needed

I had this problem on my 8v when i first got it. I checked the timing and it was two teeth out! After it was sorted it drove like a new car! Much quicker and better mpg!!! the revs went all the way as well!!!

Mine was sorted as soon as i changed the timing belt and correctly adjusted the timing
Car never missed a beat ran great but would just limit out at 5,000 revs

Hi I've just had the same problem, replaced the distributor and checked timing and all is now well.  Good luck.

[
center]First thing to check is the base ignition timing. If this is wrong, the engine will 'pink' and the ecm will not allow it to rev high.

Other than this, it will be the hall effect sender that is at fault (attached to the side of the distributor)

Your local VW place or tuning gargage shouldn't charge you More than £30 to set base ignition timing and check for fault codes.

I know that this subject has caused some contraversy in the past, but this method really does work to cure this fault!

Hola! My car started doing this on the weekend people! I did give her a fair bit of abuse yesterday even had her up to 6000 rpm in 5th! Towards the end of the day my exhaust broke and on my way home I tried to rev her up to overtake a car and she hit the limiter at 5 grand! Nothing has been adjusted and I doubt the cam belt would of slipped! Could the exhaust blowing (rear box broke off totally and middle blowing) cause the lamda sensor to throw a wobbly and put her in 'limp mode'?
Thankyou for any response!

I washed my car a day later (in the engine bay because was so dirty) and she revved up all the way! One day later the next time I revved har up she revved to 5 again! What contacts in the engine could effect this! Can i clean up the haul sensor etc?
