Thats a good point, I assumed they were available from VW and was going to call them next week. Is that not the case?

Only one way to find out. I'll get the part numbers together over the weekend and call VW next week.
I'll let you know how I get on..........

Good luck. I get a bad feeling they might be expensive, as this how these rebuild companies make their money.

Wouldn't the rebuild companies still need to source their parts from VW . All I'm endeavouring to do is cut out the labour charge for doing the job.

I suppose it depends where the rebuild companies source there bits from. Isn't it a pain in the arse doing a rebuild? i thought you had to measure all the clearances and adjust them with shims. TAKE SOME PICS!

So is working on gearboxes quite and easy thing to do, my Mk1's box has gone in a similar way on the syncro's 2, 3 and 4.

Might practise on my old shagged Mk2 box.

I worked for a g/box reconditioners for a while, most recon g/boxes just needed bearings and synchro's. If it was more than that (gears etc) they were not viable and the good parts used for spares. We used to buy a lot of low milage g/boxes out of crashed cars with broken cases for most of the internal parts.

Once you price the bearings, seals and gaskets put some labour on, I wonder how they earn any money out of it  ;).
Steve.
