ABS light problem

Hi wondering if anyone can help me, right I have a 97 P reg GTi 8 valve, now one day the abs light came on, and at the same time, I noticed a rattleing coming from the back end, I found there was a stone trapped in between the rear disc and back plate! Now I tested both rear sensors with a multi meter and found the sensor with the side that had the stone rattling was not reading anything, so I come to the conclusion that the stone had damaged the sensor! I ordered a new one from gsf but cos of moving etc didnt fit it! since driving it with the abs light on the brake warning light on the dash also comes on after about 10 secs after pulling off. My mot is due so I found my new sensor and fitted it today! but imagine my suprise when the abs light still stays on  :cry:  But the warning light in the dash has gone off! Now haynes are next to useless reguarding abs problems, but am I missing somthing here? does the abs light have to be reset or anything??

yep, you need vag com to clear the faults. Some kind soul in your area might help if we knew where you were?

i have the same problem. can't you clear the fault memory by didconnecting the battery for 20 mins or so?

After replacing a sensor, go drive the car and do an emergency stop, then the ABS will go out.

so the abs kicks in and the ecu knows it's all ok?

Don't ask me how it works  :grin: when i replaced a sensor, the light stayed on so thats what i tried, and it worked!  :cool:

Right Ive treated myself to a vagcom cable! all i need to do is conect it to my wifes car! Ive conected it to my 16v and was soooo pleased when there are no fault codes listed! yahoo!
So if anyone in north suffolk or norfolk needs their motor hooked upto vagcom, let me know!!

I just replaced my o/s/f sensor on my vr6, no VAG-com needed, just a multimeter  :grin:

 i did mine a few weeks ago and they were both a real bastard. got the allen bolt out ok but the sensors were the metal and plastic type and were tight as a nuns chuff. No amount of WD40 would move em and i ended up chiseling them off.l
