FOR MRVR6's BENEFIT

YOU SAID:
"Drilling the front and side(not engine side) on old k-jet cars makes a big difference if combined with a sports air filter. This is because stock air boxes are very restrictive (to keep noise levels down), opening it up stops the depression occurring in the airbox, hence much better throttle response and a little bit of extra power. "

I SAID

"I don't think you emphasized the word 'little' enough. It merely makes your car sound louder

like drilling your back box on your mk2 escort back in the day - if it adds 1/2 a fallabella pony power I'd be surprised. "

Note well my use of sarcasm at the end - I think drilling the airbox adds a negliable amount like 3-5% power gain.

Now where's your point OH ENGINEERING GOD??

Here are some of your great statements:-

1.New longer duration cams would be a waste of time - unless you have ported and flowed your head.

Bollox, cams work, ported head will just make it even better.

2.don't think you emphasized the word 'little' enough

It merely makes your car sound louder

Bollox, 1/2 pony power, try about 5%

3.To be honest it's just the noise making you think it's faster mate.

Bollox, more airflow means more power

4. Induction kits are a bit of a mixed bag - like you correctly point out - they work for the older cars - but are useless on the majority of newer cars with fully computerised management systems (which merely recalulate the air/fuel ratio when extra air is admitted).

Thats the idea , more air more fuel, more power. K-jets works the same, ever heard on an air flow meter?

I'm sure i could find many other bullsh!te statements Mr.Shady  :-*

what is 3-5% of 139?

about 6bhp - is that not small enough? How small would you say small was?

And that is if the engine is in good tune.

Adding just cams would be a waste of money - sure you would get a performance rise - but to FULLY get the advantage, you need to g/f your head wouldn't you agree?

On a K jet yes - more airflow = more power - but you made a sweeping comment.

Newer engines - will NOT have the same benefit - agree? In fact VAG will invalidate your warranty if you fit an induction pack coz it f**ks up the MAF. As my colleague with a Leon found out after he had blown up his 3rd meter in 8mths.

I'm sure you couldn't mr vr6 -

Yep, but 5% isn't bad on a vr6  ;D
I never said drilling/filter on k-jets gives a big power increase, the main benefit is mid-range revs. This makes the car much more driveable, without having to rev the tits off it.
Newer engines will not have the same benefit? bollox
The AAA lump is fully electronic system, induction kit works well on it, better infact than on my old 16v motor.
They work because the airflow meter senses more air and so the ecu will add more fuel. This results is more mixture in the chamber, more power. Simple really.
As for Airflow meters(hot wire type) being prone to failure with induction kits, i think this is a fairly dubious statement to make as these items are prone to failure anyway. I haven't had a problem so far.
