what battery?
« on: 20 February 2006, 09:42 »
hi all, i have been having trouble with my head unit cutting out when you turn it up for ages now, but as i am away with work at the mo the car has been in my garage. Now my girl friend went to start it last night but the battery was flat, got it jumped and then went for a drive to charge it up a bit, the car is due in to get lowered 60m today but the bat was flat again! so i am guessing that the battery must be fooked, i reckon its the reason i have been having problems with the head unit? :undecided: what battery should i get that will handle the ice with no problems as i want to get an amp to run my 6 be 9's! cheers, rob

A standard battery will power what you have absolutely fine.

If its been a while since you had the battery changed and/or you've had alternator problems then maybe thats why you have a dodgey battery now.

I'd change the battery and see how it goes as a headunit and amp shouldn't kill a battery (well in the past four cars i've had more stereo in and never had a second battery in to run it).

Hope this helps.

Basicly with batteries the higher the CCA rating (cold cranking amp's) the better. But to be honest i cant belive your head unit would ever draw enough current to create this problem. I belive your issue is else where matey.

^^^ oh don't say that! i hate trying to track down elec problems! lol well i have a new head unit to fit when i get back so i will see how this does, also going to change the front speakers as they are the original vw ones which are nearly as old as i am!

also going to change all the speaker wire as i was stupid to buy some really thick blue stuff from halfords that is far too thick to terminate properly!

I found that my stereo was draining my battery as it had been wired incorrectly. I've just got a standard battery. I got someone to re wire it and now its fine so I would check your wiring.
