Hi All,

I have just purchased a Y reg Golf GTI Turbo 1.8T 150bhp after a 9 months DR10.  Being just 19 I need some help with the stereo.

It sounds good at the moment but is it safe to amp up the existing speakers with like a 400/500 watt 4 channel amp?

Also if I bought a component set would I need to use the crossovers as i am not sure if they are already there as I have 2 sets of tweeters standard with the car?

Last question..........whats the best and easiest way to wire an amp power cable through the bulkhead, i dont really want to start stripping stuff off as it's hard enough to work on n e way with that turbo lump rammed in!

Cheers  Louis

You wont need to come through the bulkhead as there are large battery power points behind the dash under the steering wheel.  a 500watt amp will blow your standard speakers to bits

Cheers for that info....could you please just give me a rough idea of what it will look like and what I could wire off it... n e pics would be great

i have now ordered the speaker templates for both sets of doors. i am going to install some infinity 16.5cms. i have one set sat in the garage and i will invest in another.

Could I wire an amp off the 12v cigarette lighter point in the boot???? if so what size amp could I wire off it??

Wire your amp off the battery and put a fuse within 18 inches of the battery.

Don't bother with cheap speakers replacing both front and back speakers and spend some good money on one set of components for the front. Something like dyn audio or genesis. Your ears are plonked on your head to listen to stuff from the front of you, upgrading speakers behind you is a waste of time as it won't benefit you.

Just as a thought, 16.5cm speakers is near 8". I was unaware of component speakers reaching that diameter. You aren't going to put mini subs in your doors are you?
