8v stalling/revving
« on: 17 November 2003, 12:12 »
My 8v (digifant) has a problem where it sometimes stalls when you dip the clutch and the revs drop.  Also, sometimes when I am sitting at traffic lights or whatever, it keepings revving itself without me touching the accelerator.  This can be quite embarrassing as the car sitting next to me thinks I'm looking for a race.  Particulary bad if its a police car/porsche/old granny/mother and child in a metro/etc.  Whatever way you look at it, its not good.  I have a feeling that the revving and stalling are in some way linked, its like its trying to get it to idle properly and it cant.  Any ideas peeps?

Cheers

Idle stabilising valve? is there an idle switch fitted or just a potentiometer? I think its either a faulty sensor or a vacuum leak. Also could be a faulty cam sender sensor. Check for vacuum leaks, and maybe get the car on a fault reader.

Sounds like an air leak to me. It's just finding it that will br the prob.  Have a look where the speedo cable rubs on the air intake, if it looks worn squeze it, if the revs go mad you've found your leak, tape it up for a quick fix!  Sqeezing any of your air related pipes may give a rusult..

Your right it could be many things. It's just if it's free reving it sounds like it's taking in air from somewhere without the throttle open. A squeez on the pipes wont do any harm and will only take 30 seconds, worth a look i reckon.

I'd go along with that, check for vacuum leaks then if ok check the electrical sensors or try a fault reader.
