I take delivery of a new GTI on Saturday. I don't think I'll be modifying it but I have spoken to various tuners - must one so far in terms of performance and reliability (i.e. renowned company with significant testing etc.) seems to be Revo who have a number of suppliers in the UK...looking at a potentially scary 260bhp but more importantly torque is up to 300LBFT...huge increase...very tempting as I would think as long as you are careful at low speed, the extra torque and power would make overtaking etc much beter (not that its bad anyway)

Folks,

I picked up my GTi over the weekend so still running it in and can't comment on the performance as yet.

One thing I can contribute is that I have previously had a Focus RS and modified it with a Bluefin Superchip which resulted in similar power increases to those mentioned in this thread. To be honest it wasn't a great move. The RS (which didn't have ESP or traction control) ended up having too much power for the front wheel drive - it just spun the front wheels way too easily in anything other than dry roads.

I'd be really interested to hear how a car with traction control gets on with modifications.

driving a FWD car with over 200bhp is easy. of course it'll light up the tyres in the lower gears especially in the wet.

i'll be running 300bhp in mine and still staying FWD. I'll be working towards a LSD soon.

my 2p.

I bought (swapped) my car privately, and whilst I wouldnt normaly tune a car - it already had the Awesome GTI APR remap.
I have to say, having driven both, I think it is well worth the 600 or so it cost (not me!).  I'm told it is around 240hp, but the torque is up too.

Contrary to what I was expecting, the car has better pick up lower down, and really flies. The icing on the cake is the fuel economy is slightly better - my car is averaging just over 29mpg since I got it - and easily into the mid 30's on a motorway run...
