"Ahoy there mateys, well shiver me timbers !" ( and all that bollox ) at least the mk3 doesn't seem have the annoying habit of getting water on the inside cos when the mk2 does it needs a quality mk3 strength matrix to put it right.

I'm sorry that this is all a bit off subject but why is there this strange animosity that some peeps have against the mk3 8v GTI ?
I know it's more sluggish than the mk2 , I had a mk2 8v for over 11years and it was a great car and yes if I was in the market for a Golf Gti I would still probably pick the mk2 even if money was no object but the mk3 is a good car but in different ways.
The only real thing I found disappointing when first drove one back in 92 was the handling but that was no worse than the VR6 IMO .and a simple fitment of a decent suspension kit sorted that.
