I prefer singles on big bumpers, its much cleaner looking. Twins are old skool and suit small bumpers best x

I dunno about simple lamp grilles being for chavs.
TBH chavs wouldnt touch a Golf, as they tend to be very anti Germany (the ones I've met anyway) It makes me laugh when I tell them their Corse/Astra/Nova was designed/built by Opel, a German company!!!

I used to have a guy i worked with, well i say worked with he was in the same office, which i was always tempted to throw him out of the window.  He used to slag of the looks of the Golf and German cars.  He has a little boy'd up Corsa, with whopping 1.2lt engine which he thinks is fantastic. Loved seeing him on the roads when I was in my brothers VR6 or Mates R32 lol.

so i loved telling him his car was a german designed car!

Back to the lights, single lamps look empty space, having the twins change the look totally.  When you see them four lamps from a distance you can tell its a Golf coming.

Single light grills are for chavs I'm afraid. The whole point in the beginning of the twin light grill was that it was only on the GTI's, the single lamps were for the 1ltr, 1.3ltr, no GTI etc thingys. Do you want your lovely GTI to look like that? Well do ya??

possibly the stupidest thing i've read in ages!!

i like both but have a single lamp grill, it makes it look wider and a simpler. and as for " gti's only having them" gti's had a load of stuff that other models didn't but if you look around at the golf scene, people remove arches, trim, spoilers, big bumpers, double grills, badges etc all to make their cars understated, i don't have a double grill, rear spoiler or a gti badge on the back.... does that make me a chav then?...with a chav car?

granted the spoiler is still on it in those pics! back end now looks like this!

Yeah, I found that comment a bit nonsensical, but anywho...

I think on Golfs, really either look good, just it depends on personal preference.
What I don't like, tho is the Bloody Jetta front on Golfs, and to a lesser extent the Rallye front, but the worst is that twin square light on the really rare golfs by some vw tuner, the one where there are only three in the country, eww.

I'm sorry if I upset anyone with the "chav" comment, but the way I see it is that the GTI has a rich vein of heritage, and moving it back to the look of the more basic models is a step in the wrong direction. Again just my take on it. And yeah I also agree about the Jetta front end looking naff (to me) and the Rallye grill, except if it's on a Rallye. As for debadging cars,  I thought that was just for Corsa boys and the Max Power crowd who're embarrased that their cars are not dyed in the wool performance cars, just (badly) modded standard road cars?

^^^ no offence taken but i think you've got the wrong end of the stick here, so by me not having ti badges on my car puts it in the same league as a corsa? i seriously don't understand that point of view?

the golf is an icon because of its shape, drivability, engineering amongst other things, not because of a badge?

ultimately the amount of different styles and tastes in the golf world (which surely you must be aware of???) means that people are able to turn their car into which ever style they prefer, and it shouldn't make them a "chav" if they decide they don't want a standard looking car?

Yep that's my little b!tch im my sig. She's purty standard except the wheels (the BBS are in the garage waiting for a refurb). Look I think at the end of the day not everything is to everyone's taste. Different strokes for different folks.

One thing we can all agree on though is a common love of the MK2 Golf (in all forms) which is what brings us all to places like this in the first place. Sure I may not be too hot on your car, or you on mine but what the f**k. It's a MK2 Golf. Nuff said.

Oh and I think the other thing we can all agree on is that MK3 8v GTI's suck. Big time.
