Starting/running problems poss fuel supply
« on: 18 January 2006, 09:49 »
Hi

Had problems starting my digi 8v yesterday. Had to call the AA man who said it was something to do with the fuel supply. He thought it was just because it was low on fuel but after filling it up the same happened this morning, and the car runs rough as anything now. Was so nice before  This happened suddenly yesterday with no warning. One day it would start fine and run smooth, now this. Now takes forever to start.

Does anyone know what causes this, thought of something to do with the injectors or fuel filter, evidently the fuel pump works fine.

Cheers for any help

There are 2 fuel pumps. Main 1 under car and lift pump in the tank. Could be either but id replace the lift pump 1st. Could also be a blocked filter but unlikely as this would be a progressive fault and not a sudden issue. Get a garage to check your fuel pressure 1st.

Replace the blue temp sender from VW, mine did the same!  Fine one day then overnight wouldn't start without alot of effort.  Best £13 I've ever spent :)

Changed the blue temp senser about a month ago. Not sure if it's VAG though, although the place I got it from has always given me decent quality parts. Could it be the wiring connected to it? My temp guage doesn't work sometimes, I changed that at the same time (it didn't work at all before).

It's now at the garage getting a running test. Will find out tomorrow what needs doing.

Have spoken to the garage and they want 200 to fit a new airflow meter. Too much. Does anyone know where I can get one from or does anyone have one going? Please respond, I can't live without my car!

Get yourself down to VW and buy a genuine blue temp sender.  If it doesn't fix it keep it as a spare or sell it on :)

Ebay or a decent vw breakers for the £200 bit, worth a try..    First though change that blue sensor again as a couple of people had problems with non VAG replacements a little while back. Mine was a GSF one and gave up the ghost after about 8 weeks of being fited, changed lots of bits before i put a VAG sensor in on the off chance and it worked perfectly!! Ooohh i was annoyed...

Have been on the phone to awesome and they have a new one for £95, should be here Monday. You have a point about the temp senser though, £13 isn't that much. Does anyone know how you can test it?

No point testing it, just get it replaced :)
Even broken ones can give you roughly accurate resistance values, thats the trouble!
