Serious Answers/ opinions needed...
« on: 20 December 2005, 01:35 »
Right people been having a time of it... looks like xmas on me tod is looking more and more likely and not seeing anyone due to lack of transport is going to knacker my chances of any good food, or seeing family for at least another 4-5 months.

So main question is this though...

Car has now been a non-started for ooo 2 and a half months, 2 battery changes new dizzy, new HT leads, New Ignition coil, New sparks basically an entirely new ignition system.

Still it won't start, am getting a mate to come up and look it over from back home as he has loads of experience with dubs and has always been spot on before. Now that should be wednesday, but the thing is i am so pissed off with it that i am seriously considering just f**king it off, its cost loads to get to where it is now, and when its running its awesome, but at the moment its spent more time off the friggin road than it has on it. in the last 4 months there has been new wheels, new rear shocks, new gearbox, new waterpump, ignition system as above and about 2 oil changes. brakes, etc etc. Now don't get me wrong i love dubs, but this one is just killing me slowly, and i am really beginning to lose my patience and enthusiasm for the whole "dub love" thing.

Basically i need your opinions should i f**k it off or keep it and keep perserveering ?? Or can someone give me a cheap diesel and let me take this old shed off the road.

thats the best mk3 ive seen..ever! its just clean and subtle..

Wait for your mate to check it out first, fresh pair of eyes & all that.  I nearlly went to the lenghs you are going to until I found out my lifter pump went, which when I first got my Golf I was told I didn't have one!!!   main fuel pump primed ok (no mad buzzing) but it wouldn't fire

I hope it's something your mate can fix easy

I know how you feel. Ive recently had a similar sounding problem with mine. In the end i gave up too. But i didnt get rid, i just took it to a Bosch centre and asked them to apply their expertees. In the end it was a combination of the metering head being out of calibration and the timing being out. Cost £140 which i didnt mind as i got my baby back. And now ive also got the smile back on my face as i plant the accelerator and roar past everything else on the road! Dont give in. If your mate cant find the problem then take it too a posh garage, preferebly one with bosh credentials.

don't give in mate; surely the smile it puts on your face everytime you rip past someone or just go for a drive outweights the frustration it causes you. I know mine does

keep it mate; you'll only regret it if you got rid and you'll never find another car to match it

I had this same problem with my first golf, that car owed me the better part of £2k when i sold it for £120.  and i have always regretted it, (even tho i have 2 more 8v's now!) it was a bag of crap alright, but it was full of juicy spares which i realy coulda used, worst comes to worst get another car and donar this one, it looks tidy enuff.....?

i would keep it mate after all the hard work and money you have put in.You would not get anywhere near what it owes you if you sell it as a non runner. Its always worse when you have trouble like this in the winter as no one wants to be out fixing a car in the freezing cold, have had similar thoughts several times myself.

Think i would either just take it to a decent garage and pay to get it properly sorted once and for all or take it off the road and by a old banger for the winter then sort it when the weather improves all ready for the show season again!!

everyone has those "i hate that fecking car" moments, especially when its not running.

i can 100% guarantee though that when its fixed (pull yer finger out!), you'll p!ss on some chavved up french piece of tossrag, and find yourself smiling while patting the dashboard thinking "god i love this fecking car!"
