WATERLEAK?
« on: 06 November 2003, 17:48 »
I Have just purchased an absolutely mint golf gti 8 valve, 5 door, H reg with every old mot and service document not even a mark on the drivers seat bolster!  I am lucky!  But it does have one fault that the drivers front footwell and a bit behind drivers seat is damp - any ideas - The car is truly mint and never been welded, crashed or even a trolley dent - I wondered whether there were any common areas of waterleak - it definately seems more prominent in the drivers footwell and seems to seep to the back!

Cheers

Could be water entering by your bonnet pull. The water could be dripping from the bonnet, down the cord and entering the footwell? Happend to a mate of mine. You with me?

Maybe a burst heater matrix? does the heater give out heat?

What a great forum!  I have never been more excited to actually spend time fixing an anoying fault!  fitting a performance modification is great fun because you are sure its going to make you happy!  but run of the mill maintanance just doesn't do it for you normally does it!

Cheers everyone who has sent a message of help!

Busy day today! I replaced the drivers door membrane and sealed the bonnet catch gator better although it looked like new!  I also cleaned all the crap in the scuttles by the ecu and by the fan and also cleaned through the sunroof tubes!  hopefully this should cure the problem!  notice that I have followed all you peoples lovely advice! also had a squeaky interior fan so I stripped it down cleaned it with duck oil and reasembled - and its great no squeak!  Also polished and cleaned the car for 4 hours!  This is what weekends should be for!
