Stripped Headbolt

While putting the head back on my 8v i have managed to strip the threads on one of the head bolts :cry:. Any ideas as to how this can be fixed?, can they be helicoiled? or isnt that strong enuff?. My only other idea would be a 2.0 bottom end :evil:

Im starting to think this car hates me, lol.

Can you re-tap it?
How did you manage to strip the thread? what did you use a 2 meter breaker bar?  :grin:

Well im hoping it can be tapped bigger then some sort of helicoil put in, will have a ring round tomorrow.

I did it upto the correct torque then did it up 90 degrees, had a breather, started to do it the last 90 degrees and it just went, a very bad feeling!

Well it was about 1 meter breaker, err with abit of pipe on! :wink:

Are you thinking of the rocker cover studs?, im on about the bolts that hold the head to the block!

why did you keep tightening after you had reached the specified torque?  :rolleyes:

try stud extractors - drill down the centre, insert stud extractor & wind out the broken bit (in theory) lol

i didnt over tighten?, tighten to 60nm then a further 180 degrees?. Stud extractors would be a good idea if i had a broken stud in ther :rolleyes:

Yeah you're supposed to tighten to the specified torque then give all the bolts 90 degrees, then another 90 degrees ;)

Sounds like the perfect excuse for a 2.0 bottom end if you ask me :grin:

Edit: I'd get another torque wrench it sounds like yours might be out! And the correct procedure is, tighten them all to 40nm (29.5lbf ft) then to 60nm (44.3lbf ft) then 90 degrees, then another 90 degrees ;)

surely there is a way of replacing it :huh: but yeah get a 2.0l anyway :evil:

is it cast with the bottom end or interfeirence fit?
