At approx. 4pm Tuesday 8th November 2005 I was driving down the Western Ave. A40 between the Polish war memorial & Hillingdon turn off. The day before I had collected by 1991 mk2 16v oak green golf from the garage where it had been extensively worked on, head gasket, valve stem seals etc. I was cruising at approx. 45/50 mph due to turn off at the next junction 1/2 a mile away. At this time the rear of my vehicle was severely impacted upon by another car, my head thrown back into the headrest. I looked in my rear view mirror to see a bmw compaq in transverse position rotating 12/15 feet above the road surface. The car hit the central reservation then landed in the middle lane. The instigators were in a Peugeot, they stopped their vehicle and fled the scene into the nearby field. Miraculously the driver of the BMW was ok apart from some minor cuts & bruises.
Today I left my car with the insurance approved body repair guy who informed me that the car would most likely be a classed as a total loss! The rear panel & bumper is crushed along with the underside of the car. It is driveable & still drives like a dream. I am devastated, having the car for more than 6yrs, there's nothing I can do. I have asked for and taken advice from this forum & am numb at the thought of losing my golf.
Saying that the golf probably saved me from severe injury as the damage is contained to the rear of the vehicle.
I know I won't receive the car's value. I just wanted to air my loss & frustration.
Thankyou for reading my story......
