another idea is to stick to the close ratio 1600 box but chuck in a real high cwp. the box was in a whole host of different makes of car and one of the highest cwps was in a maestro van!!!    i still thrash the fcuk out of mine with the standard 1600 box(although diff pin on its last legs)

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm, sh!tbox..er maestro  van you say.  Worth a look for next time im wondering around a scrappy.
Found out last night that the rev counter maybe out.  (my emissons machine has an rpm reading and it disagreed with the rev counter)   Ever known this?  Could explain why it will hit 7000 in 5th easily, on the flat, with 1600 ... 136mph,  :laugh:I don't think so.

Cheers

I am not saying it's not true but the only time I get to speeds like that is when  I am on my motorbike.

You need to get into some late night driving - M25 anti-clockwise from dartford up to M1 is great

i actually went the other way with mine. My 1800 box packed up a year ago and had to get a replacement asap so I put in a 1979 MK1 1600 box in (10 years older than the one that came out  )   It's made the car so much more fun, I do lose a little bit top end.
