MK6 Wheel Alignment - Wrong Car Specs
« on: Today at 07:59 »
Hey everyone, just wanted to vent and see if anyone has dealt with a similar headache.
I recently took my Mk6 Golf in for its MOT. It needed some repairs ( anti roll bar ) and so needed the tracking sorted, but when I got home and looked closer at the printout they handed me, I noticed they actually ran the alignment using MK7 Golf (5G1) specs instead of the correct ones for my car. To top it all off, when I walked around to check the car after getting home, I noticed they've completely scuffed one of my alloy wheels.

On top of the visual damage, the steering now feels noticeably off and pulls slightly to the left when driving straight.

Am I right in thinking the steering feeling off and pulling to the left is because they used the wrong spec for the car?

The main reason for pulling to one side is incorrect wheel alignment and the fact that the steering wheel is not correctly centred suggests poor practice by the garage. The wrong spec could have contributed to this. You don't say if it was a full 4 wheel alignment? If it was then most reputable garages will provide a printout of the alignment after that you can check. If not then suggest that is your first action. I always have 4 wheel alignment on my mk6 after suspension or tyre changes.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

I called the garage and was told the machine tells them what to do and the specs are the same?
