brakes slamming - emergency braking
« on: Today at 16:25 »
for no apparent reason, trying to enter or exit my home parking, car barely moving as i am trying to avoid brakes slamming. Exactly what happens though every now and then, both in forward movement as well as in reverse (mostly when in reverse).  No sensitivity settings to change i think, i did try to deactivate front assist altogether but the warning lights come on, with a little screen notification that strongly warns against that.  Ideas?

Is it the been activated by a car possibly passing by on the road?

Mine does this occasionally if I'm trying to leave a driveway and there is  a car on the road it slams the brakes on.

Or maybe in your case if the when entering the driveway somehow the height is adjusted if the driveway is on a slant and the sensor picks up something, a flowerpot maybe?

Yeah, my 7.5 used to do that every so often when reversing into my garage. Used to scare the life out of me as it sounds horrible when it applies the brakes!

Will see if my new CS does it, I’m expecting it will. To be fair I’d rather it be a bit on the sensitive side. It once saved me from a miscalculated reverse!

Another observation of mine is the car tends to be far more sensitive with the breaks if reversing at 180 degrees as opposed to at an angle.

Yeah this has come up here before. It’s normal, it’s the front/rear assist thinking you’re about to run into something. The “slam on” is very unnerving to say the least. Makes you think you’ve actually done damage.

I’ve found that if you reverse gently, no sudden movements and have your foot lightly on the brake pedal as you move, then it’s less likely to happen. I guess because the car senses you’re already in control of the braking, albeit gently.

Indeed, covering the brake pedal helps.
I have a 1 inch (3cm for our EU members 😁) -ish lip going into my garage which causes all hell to break loose in the emergency stop department if I clip it as 0.01 mph (very very slow for our EU members 😁) front, rear, parking and god knows what else brakes slam on full if my foot isn’t resting very gently on the pedal.

There’s a junction I have to edge out of occasionally that is quite narrow with houses opposite and a defined hump in the road which really upset the collision gear on my mk8’s but for some reason doesn’t bother the 8.5 as much. I still keep a foot lightly resting on the brake pedal though, just in case.
