Forgot to say in my previous post above, this can be disabled which I did in my Clubsport after the brakes slammed on and seatbelts tensioned as I was reversing very gingerly into a supermarket parking bay causing back and neck pain. The trigger for this was a couple of people wandering between parked cars a significant distance away in another row of cars and the row I was parking in was almost empty of cars (and pedestrians).
I can’t remember the exact settings on the mk8 but I was just reminded of it reversing my car into the garage amongst all the junk with parking sensors screaming away!

Anyway, it’s labelled as Manoeuvre Braking:

that's nice to hear, i remember playing with this in my mk7, but i don't think i have changed the setting in my current car.  I'll give it a go, i assume disabling this means i could just exit my driveway and even if i direct my car towards my wall intentionally just for the fun of it, it won't slam the brakes, that right?

I know it’s a pain in backside and scared the bejesus out of you, but I’d rather have it then not. Also wonder if it would be an insurance claim issue if it was found to be turned off post accident?

If it’s just for use on your own driveway then turn it on and off as needed.
