Went into local dealer on Sunday, managed to order a GTI in black 8.5 and said delivery would be mid September

Yeah, there are quite a few either sat at dealers or on their way to them in the next few weeks. All the ones I have seen are cars where the colour (e.g. black metallic) is the only option included. If you want to spec other options (e.g. unusual colour, different wheels, sunroof, DCC, etc) then the official "20 weeks" kicks in as a fresh factory order.

Yep thats exactly how my ordering process went, i wanted to change the wheels but it took it over the 40k OTR price.. so decided to do this after market

Unusual, I'd expect to see like before where dealers get a mix of builds - colours, options etc.... I know I picked my Mk8 from a list of possible cars the dealer had in their compound. Maybe the closeness to the dreaded 40K has meant they haven't gambled on "expensive" builds?

Think you've hit the nail on the head there Fred.

Most people who go over £40k will go well over and add numerous options.  No point in adding one item and facing extra tax of £'000s.  All or nothing!

Interesting - that is exactly what I was thinking of doing. My thought was to stick with 18's (there are loads to chose from for around £600) and swap the tyres over. I would then "just" have the issue of selling the Richmonds on Ebay or such like. Is there a better option, or were you thinking 19s anyway?

I'd keep the OEM wheels... either to go back on when you sell it/hand it back or just in case.

My branch offered to buy them back off me and then i could either purchase the new ones seperately or throigh them!

Its such a shame as if i was to chose the wheels i wanted it would take it over the £40k, then i would have added a few more extras as no point adding just one thing which tips it over

I’ve changed my moonstone to black. The dealer was able to pull a car that was destined for another dealership in the group. Meant I could get the extra £750 summer sale contribution, and have the car a month earlier. I’m aiming to collect end of September.

Does anybody here understand VW order status codes? My salesman tells me that my order has just changed to status (20), my understanding was that this is ‘factory ordered - production week confirmed’ ? But he tells me he cannot see any dates, and it is still at ordered status!?

Sorry, I should have made clear that it would be a conventional purchase +/- trade-in (or only on finance for a few weeks prior to the loan being paid off). If the car was on long-term finance (PCP) I obviously wouldn't be able to swap the wheels (or do any other significant mod) without permission. Keeping the OEM wheels still has some merit (re: future sale?), but I think I would need to turn them into hard cash.

Just ordered a Mk8.5

Options: None
Colour: White NCO

Wanted to keep it under the luxury car tax as it’s part of a little fleet for us.
