Thought a GTI would be a perfect retirement car, given its the perfect balance of being able to the day to day effortlessly and with decent economy, but with enough performance for something little more spirited when moment suits.
Worked from home for over a decade now and have quite a bit of flexibility and actually enjoy my job and people work with, so the retirement path is something not really been thinking to, but as just hit a landmark birthday beginning with 6! its creeping into view, likely do another couple of years and then do the phased exit over a year, which is basically part time with 80% money, or maybe convince them to pay me a year or so salary and leave there and then.
In terms of cars, did toy with a last hurrah of new, and had an idea of financing a MK 8.5 R/Clubsport, but have decided to channel more into pension as late boost and think will add a MK 7.5 R/GTI to our present 2019 R, as my retirement drive until they both get into the 10 year and then maybe swap one for 4-5 year old MK 8.5 GTI/R and run other as second car run around for as along as economical too.
Think my retirement would be to have a complete year off, have plenty in mind to keep myself occupied, keeping self active, lots of walking! (with added pleasure of long drives in cars we love to drive, getting to the walks) and including grassroots coaching, where can help more on administrative side of club as whole.
Maybe then might do something part time, hopefully in one of areas where feel can give something back? Who knows, but never struggled keeping myself busy, and with some purpose, so cannot see a reason for that to change,
Good topic, good sailing for all those who have retired or about to, and keep your purpose and fiercely defend allowing yourselves the things you enjoy IE: Cars and driving
