Autohold v Handbake

I couldn't find if this has been covered before.

I assume autohold isn't good if stationary for long periods (traffic lights etc), as autohold is no more than a break, as I see the brake lights in the rear view mirror. The engine is sending power to the wheels via the diff, the break is stopping the wheels from spinning and causing load/wear of the diff or clutch?

If you have a DSG box my understanding is that it will disengage the clutches when stationary in Drive - I could be wrong though.
Have to admit, hardly ever use Autohold, just engage neutral and use the handbrake.

I'm pretty sure that auto-hold is the standard behaviour? I would have thought it was just a case of whether you want your DSG-equipped car to creep or not. I doubt VW would put in a feature that unnecessarily wears the clutches, diff etc and make it accessible with a single button press.

With me, Parking Brake is used for parking only, Auto Hold for everything else. Never has issues.

Turned off as soon as I got my car - with a DSG I can't see why I would need it. Even on steep hills I go from neutral to drive then foot off brake and immediately onto gas. Never had any roll back. Light stays off unless it is accidentally pressed.

Never switched it off, never used the handbrake, just pull up, engine off and jump out,

Me too auto hold when driving and handbrake when parking..... I only had the car 2 mins and parked up and to my disbelief, I pressed the lock car on the fob and luckily parked on a relatively flat bit of road and it started moving forward, getting faster and faster, had to chase it down the road, open the door and jump in, before it rolled into a van. My Mrs would have killed me

After a massive fuss in USA donkey’s years ago re Runaway Audis, you can be certain that Autohold etc has been well thought through and well engineered by VAG  for its purpose.

I struggled to get used to Autohold in my R after a Mk6 GTI - was grasping a missing handbrake  lever for a while.  But in routine driving I find Autohold works so well I have almost come to take it for granted.

A bit like you do with ACC!

We have both a mk6 and mk7. I miss the autohold on the mk6 but have never forgotten to use the handbrake when stationary yet! Sometimes wonder where to put the key (stop/start button) when getting into the mk7
