I think many/most of us can relate to your predicament.
A Golf to many of us feels like “home”.
Some people are so blinkered by VW’s they can’t see any further than that and that’s fine, we are all different. Some people like to keep standard, some people like to modify…
The i30N is something we’ve all read about and watched reviews on, and to those of us that quite like a modified Golf it’s got that appeal of seemingly a more rorty version of a GTI out of the box as standard. But, it’s not a Golf and to some/many that’s unimportant, and to others it’ll be lacking that ingredient X that makes a Golf GTI what it is.
I’d have honestly imagined that the i30N would have been a car you would have looked forward to every drive in but I do get that connection thing.
I bought an F40 M135i because I thought it was a better Golf than VW made and I still do, and yet I only kept that car a very short time before returning to a Golf. Admittedly it was for more complex reasons than merely missing a Golf but it was a Golf that I did return to and have never regretted that one iota.
As I see it you have the option of giving it more time to see if you and the Hyundai eventually gel which I doubt will happen, but if you do return to a Golf, make sure it’s the right Golf for you.
The 2016 GTI sounds interesting. Not too many miles, old enough to justify lightly modifying it, especially as things start to require replacing they can be upgraded. Well out of warranty so therefore begging for a remap.
But would you regret not waiting for a 7.5 GTI to become available?
