Clubsport Remap
« on: 20 January 2023, 08:08 »
Has anyone done it yet? I search google and YouTube and can’t find anything only Rs that have been done.

If it was that good I would have expected to hear about it by now but nope not a peep. Back when I first bought my new ed30 we had Hurdy and RedRobin etc doing awesome reviews but nothing these days.

What’s going on?

Im on a facebook group and seeing quite a few people the usa remapping gti's. Nothing in the UK though.

Is anyone using any other solution like a JB4 or tuning box?

Judging by some of the VAG forums where membership is heavily biased towards US owners, I get the impression that remapping in the US seems to be more common / popular than it is in the UK.

Thanks for the replies.

That’s quite a bit cheaper than Racing Line’s OEM+ stage 1 map I think they want over £900 but that comes with the dsg remap to handle the extra torque.

Think I’ll wait and see what Revo and APR come up with.

Be nice to see some YouTube reviews.

The world has moved on a fair bit since the mk5 tuning days.
I think Hurdy is still knocking around somewhere, more likely in an R these days I’d imagine if he still modifies his car. RedRobin would be well in his 70’s now I think.

Back then you had all that potential built into the Ed30 ready to be unlocked via a remap, and the R was a 6 cyl NA engine that was difficult and/or expensive to tune. GTI’s were trendy and VW sold them by the bucket load.
Now we have an R with trick diff rear suspension allowing it to really tear up the tarmac with a remap where a Clubsport would mostly just spin the power away along with the rubber on the front tyres.
The boys and girls that are into tuning mostly buy R’s, and for good reason.
The mk8 GTI isn’t trendy and nobody can get their hands on one aside from overpriced VW dealer used examples in the main.
The world sees the mk8 as a negative thing because it has no buttons, yet Teslas have no buttons and are super trendy. The difference being the Tesla software is better received and they make 100% sense as a company car unlike the VW.

The big change in tuning came with the panic surrounding TD1 in mk7’s, plus cheap leases and PCP’s meaning people bought their cars differently.

Personally I remapped every turbo car I had for 15 years or more (with quite a prolific turnover of cars too) but the TD1 and difficulty in unlocking ECU’s put the brakes on a lot of tuning during the mk7 era.

If I keep my mk8 past the warranty I’ll maybe tune the ECU but to be honest I’ve lost all enthusiasm for modifying cars these days. Maybe I’m not the only one. My generation are getting old. Guys in their 20’s and 30’s should be leading the way here, where are they? In Teslas probably.

I’m impressed with the new fwd diff in this clubsport it seems to put the power down really well for me even in less than optimal conditions compared to my tuned ed30 which I could spin up the wheels in 4th gear on a wet day.

However I do remember saying after I took it back to stock before I sold it that it drove better without all the bits on.

Tricky one. I fancy the extra power but don’t want to compromise the other bits would be be nice if you could have a button on the steering wheel to just use it when you want.

Ed’s is “just” a CS I think, not a 45 ? There’s quite a few people running racingline as they offer a low torque option which is better suited to FWD

same engine and map (abet no Akra)

Ed's is tuned by Littco/Devil Developments with full stage2 bolt-on's and is in the region of 450bhp

what is biggest issue with the MK8 CS/45 is the god awful stock gearbox mapping on the DQ381.2 it truly is slowwwwwwww

and if you map on the RL low torque map they don't touch the TCU tune (which in my opinion is just daft not to do so)

having been around the MQB platform many yrs now and my previous (Gen3 Seat Cupra ST running at @530bhp) the DSG mapping should be the 1st thing you do to the MK8 (later 2022 is still awaiting unlock)

over the next coming months we will see more development in the mapping while the tuning companies iron out the niggles and issue

I thought TCU software replacement was available already?

I asked someone about it not long after I got my Mk8 (and I was going through the "I hate DSG phase") and they said it was possible
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

It is but later 2022 car VW have altered the software (as they do so it needs to be cracked again for OBD flashing)
