Water build up on rear sills

I have an issue whereby water is building up on the rear door sills of my 2017 R. The offside is much worse than the driver side. I’m presuming it’s the common problem of the speaker seal but just wanted to check before attempting to resolve the issue.

Any thoughts?

Ya I have all four done and used a good silicon to seal. Problem re-occurred on one door but on inspection seal was still perfect. Lots of head scratching an garden hose came to conclusion was comin in around white pops that attach door card to door. Sealed that up also an 3months later all dry. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Good to know. The only but that scared me is having to drill out the speakers as on that video is showed them riveted in place. Is that correct?

You'll be fine it's not difficult, I'm sure there's a vw repair guide somewhere that tells you the correct size of drill bit to use, then just follow it up with some anti-rust paint. I'd use rivet nuts when redoing the speakers, as if it happens again you can just unscrew the speakers, so less damaging.

It will almost certainly be the speakers and as noted above some of the door card clips can leak a little as well so I would have plenty of spares. 

I've done this repair on two mk7's now and I took a more 'ghetto' approach - I didn't remove the speakers and just used a low modulus silicone around the perimiter of each speaker.  'Normal' bathroom grade silicon didn't work very well but the low modulus stuff did.  Its not pretty but has worked fine for at least a couple of years.

Could I get a link to that video please?  . Might try it on mine as I'm fed up of having to scrape ice off the inside of the windscreen. It's driving me insane!!

Take your time drilling the rivets out to avoid any heat build up as the speakers are plastic.

Arghhhhh, after replacing the seal a few weeks back, it’s now leaking more than ever! The surrounds did crack a bit after trying to carefully drill them out but I thought I used enough sealant to solve that. I’ll rip the door panels off again tomorrow and take a look but wondering what I can do. Any ideas? Maybe replace the speakers for something better anyway?
