Floor mats
« on: 08 October 2022, 18:45 »
The floor mats that came with my TCR are wearing down.

Any ideas on where best to get official replacements or is it just straight to local garage? I know some BMW dealers sell discounted parts so not sure if any VW garages do the same.

Guess they are the standard gti mats with the red pipping and gti tag.

I don't think you can get the original ones any more.

Worth getting vw original if possible as from experience the aftermarket ones wear out very quickly.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

Was going to, but know for example Cotswold BMW sold parts much cheaper than almost all other BMW garages in my experience. Wondered if anyone new similar for VW…

That’s a shame if so.

Any good alternatives that anyone has come across?

I've just bought a set for the Polo from carmats.co.uk

OK, they are not OEM, but they are good quality and fit. That way, I can keep the original mats for best. Even if your TCR mats are showing signs of wear, I'm sure they'd come back with the wet cloth and iron method. Once clean, they won't wear any more if you don't use them.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Very true.

I don’t use the OEM carpet mats in my car - I have a set of VW rubber mats that I keep in the car all year round; much more durable than VW’s OEM carpet mats which IMHO aren’t the best quality. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but l quite like the utilitarian look of the rubber mats which are held in place with the same fastenings as the carpet mats, and I don’t have the issue of soggy carpet mats when the weather’s wet. The rubber mats are also easy to clean - quick wipe over and they look like new again.
