GTi 19" Tyres

I'm interested in people's thoughts
on the best tyres for a set of 19" Brescia
alloys? I've just got a mk 7.5 GTi
and it has 4 different tyre brands on it!
Best one is a P zero, rest are cheap
ones added by dealer. I'm also considering
going back to original 18" Parker
alloys as tyres a bit cheaper and better
ride overall, I'm guessing? Set of Michelin
Pilot Sport 4's tempting...

Goodyear Eagle Assymetric 6 would be my choice. They seem to be rated as highly as the Michelin pilot sport 5, but they are a fair bit cheaper.

The Continental Sport Contact 7 may also be worth a look.

I have Pzero on my car, as it came with them and I don't rate them. They are poor in the wet, and are wearing rapidly.

I currently have the P zero also on the 19", they seem better on the GTI than they did on my Fiesta ST, however I will be swapping them when the time comes. They're quite well know to give a harder ride and not necessarily the performance to go with it!

If you are a member of Costco (worth looking into) they do great deals of tyres, at the moment you could get an UHP tyre Eagle F1 Supersport, (Michelin Pilot Sport 4S equivalent) for about £150 a corner. That's a good 50 quid cheaper than the Pilot Sport 4S that I've found on the likes of Black Circles.

The 18" would be cheaper still at around £100 a corner from Costco for a Premium or UHP.

I was tempted to do the same with the wheels but I really like the look of the Bescia's and intend to look after them. Also finding premium or UHP tyres for around 150 instead of 200 helped!

I've had to replace passenger side tyre so
went with Pirelli P Zero to match the drivers side.

I bought Conti after reading reviews and getting a recommendation. However they are hard to get in the UK so I bought online after have cup 2’s and PS4S.

That's very interesting that the 235 width are cheaper than the 225 width for the 19" which will give some extra rim protection. Anybody running this lately, how do they compare to a 225 setup?

I really like the P-Zeros, have them on my R 25K so far and been very impressed with them all round. So have put a set on the partners GTI.
Certainly not a hard ride or noisy on either car. Plus available with a big rim protection, how much it would actually protect..... not sure, but better than nothing.

I had Eagle Assymetric 5 on my previous car. A remapped BMW 330d, and despite driving hard they lasted 16k at the back.

I will be lucky to get 10k with the Pzero on the front of my GTi, and I don't drive it hard.

Also if you turn into a corner quickly in the wet you don't get progressive understeer. Instead they lose grip suddenly and then feel as if they are just skating over the road surface.

Useful reference below with images. Looks like there's a bit of rim protection from the 235's and they are cheaper, that's a no brainer for me when the tyres need changing!

I'm running 235 Michelin ps4s on Brescia's, absolutely brilliant! Much better than original Pirelli's.
Better grip in dry and wet and transforms the ride quality. Wish I changed them when I first got the gti.
