Coil Packs 1.8t 99
« on: 17 October 2005, 13:23 »
Previously posted regarding the replacement of my MAF sensor (for the second time in 5 weeks!). Initially thought this had solved the problem, HOWEVER! on a run from Leic to Birmingham yesterday, the car decided to run like a bag of sh1te. Sluggish, felt like it was mis firing and not running on all cylinders.

Having tried 2 brand new Mafs, could this now lead to the coilpacks being the cause? Any idea on cost, easy to do? (Im not great under the bonnet!). Also the poss of recall??

Cheers once again people

Just spoken to VW, they say that they do carry out replacement coilpack work under 'recall' only for cars reg'd 2001 onwards as they said this is when they first started having the problem

They only do recall work on 2001+ cars because the earlier cars had rock solid coil packs. It wasn't until they changed them in 2001 that they started having problems.

Since yours is an AGU its unlikely to be a coilpack fault (mine have done 80,000 miles without missing a beat)
Have you had it on the diagnostics machine yet ? or know anyone with vagcom ?

Just a quick update, got car back this afternoon, driving perfect, Diagnostics/ Vagcom didnt throw anything up but whilst changing front anti roll bar bushes, all pipes/hoses were checked to engine and one was slightly unseated (not much use as im not sure which one!) poss causing air induction/leak. Since sorting, it drives spot on.

Soz cant be more accurate
