Audison definitely does work, that I can tell you. Think there was someone on here with a Mk8 GTD with it.

Helix, probably and it can't be doing anything different.

Although I don't know if you get any special controls on the mib unit for adjustments... got a feeling you might not but did you on the Mk7??? :undecided:

The MIB on the mk8 does have a basic ‘equaliser’ to set bass, treble and mid even without HK
I’m quite open to something like Audison if the sub could go under the passenger seat to avoid wiring the full length of the cab.
Obviously the Helix can be set up with the VW dongle in a mk7 (same cabin obviously but lacks the mk8 dash speaker).

Remember you've got an amp and a sub to hide somewhere....

the guy on here had the sub in the spare wheel well, plus the amp attached to the rear seat back.... not ideal really.

My HK amp is behind a panel in the left hand side of the boot, not sure if a third party one could fit there?

Some older cars I had put the amp under the passenger seat and the sub in the boot...

I’m that guy with the Audison set up 👋

Here’s a couple of pics.
I’m yet to find a problem with the Amp position, but Perhaps it would be aesthetically pleasing to have it hidden, but practically it doesn’t pose an issue for me.

The amp isn't even big. Modern amps are so much more compact. If you are happy then that's what counts.

I’d prefer an amp and sub all in one for simplicity

Hi All

I’m looking at options, which I would ideally like to install myself.

I loved the Helix kit in my MK7’s; I think it was the DSP that really made a difference. It looks like the connector on the back is the same (well the multi plug anyway), but the programming doesn’t have a setting for the MK8. I had thought the MK7 would likely be OK, but reading through this thread perhaps the MK8 has a dash speaker that the MK7 doesn’t?

Next best seems to be a Focal speaker and amp upgrade. Also one kit includes an underwear sub too. This seems like a really good guide?

Look forward to any thoughts, cheers.

Right, had time to do some research today!

Made contact with Helix distributor in Germany, who put me in contact with the UK distributor, who was very helpful. They signposted me to one of their installers.

They previously tried the MK7 Helix kit in a MK8, and while it fitted, it didn’t work correctly. The centre speaker didn’t work, which is not only used for audio, but also SOS. The DSP/amp is locked down, so no way of tweaking.

A plug and play equivalent for the MK8 includes a Helix wheel well sub, an amp/DSP which can fit under the seat, and a harness. A power lead would also be required, and another lead extension to connect the centre speaker to the amp/dsp. So not quite plug and play. The DSP would then need to be set up/tuned.

This is all certainly dearer than a set of Focal speakers and a Focal amp, but knowing just how good the Helix with its DSP and still standard speakers was in the MK7, perhaps the Focal speaker would be a disappointment??

It seems someone tried replacing the Helix sub DSP/amp to one that could be tuned for a MK8, but it was expensive and still needs connecting back to the centre speaker.

Confused, particularly as they advised the processing/output on VW cars isn’t too good, hence the significant improvement adding a DSP such as the Helix. They suggested I could be disappointed with the amp and Focal speaker change!
