Thanks for the link. I tried to look it up but what a cr@p site, amazingly for gov.uk If that's what importers face we're doomed!

It's crap to use, but if you can drill down to the item you want to find info for you should get a page like this. This is an example for sneakers:

20% VAT
16% Third country duty



It's also important to note this doesn't show the shipping companies charges, which are admin/handling fees. This is normally 2% (minimum £10-15). For some transaction there is also a UK border fee!

I’m sure when I ordered my parts from E-acca I had to wait for confirmation of availability and final shipping costs from my ‘Account Manager’-a lass called Anna,who has always been great to deal with.
My order took ages and when I checked the status,it showed I owed 70 euros,which I paid.
However,after contacting Anna and explaining that they hadn’t informed me about the debt,she looked into it and found it was a system error and I now had 70 euros credit-which was quickly spent.
Glad I got everything last year after reading this thread.

Does a Swedish frying pan offer significant passenger safety improvements over one purchased from Tesco for a tenner? Or is yours a self assembly version?

What you’re now asked to pay ain’t shipping as such, mostly shipping company’s admin fee and import tax (not duty/tariffs).

This is the reason why I won’t shop for stuff on John Lewis any longer and have it delivered to Germany.

The UK is now on the outside; that’s what a majority voted for. Sadly...

Thanks kmpowell, I had another look with the benefit of having had my dinner hence being less grumpy, as far as I can tell, enamelled cast-iron finished kitchenware attracts a 0.00% tariff and vat at 20% which was included in the price I paid. So all looks good, it just might take an age to get here though!

Better get used to this in the post Brexit world. I bought some new alloys from Tyresavers (EU based) at the end of last year. Good price, no surprises, arrived in good time. As of January they no longer offer alloys for sale in U.K.  but they sell them on their French and other websites. I guess it is just another example of the numerous organisations that are giving up on EU/U.K. trade, at least for the time being, because of customs, tariffs, bureaucracy, delays etc.

What surprises me is that these things being flagged up as "problems" for retailers aren't new.

If they ever sold anything to anyone outside of the EU (that's quite a lot of people...) then the situation is exactly the same.

My company exports to the world and we also have imported components from outside of the EU.

We just changed our system to make the UK not part of the EU and boom.... easy.
