Volkswizard video review of the Clubby now on YouTube

https://youtu.be/cTBvy3amJo4

Oval exchaust pipes?

No clubsport badge?

Having those (mk7) 19's without the winglets makes the wheels stick out beyond the body work? or aren't they 235s?

Foglights deleted to make room for air intakes.... then blanked off???

Art Velours, big tick!

Bigger turbo though - might fix that drop off at the top of the revs thats annoying in sport mode and the gear ratios are closer. Should be good actually.

Extra power? meh I'd live without that actually, the turbo and gear ratios will be the winner.

Loud exhaust? Can be a pain in the bum tbh. Too much attention and noisy over long distances. Each to their own.

R has extended paddles.... i never knew that. Easy fix though. Adding flappy paddle upgrade to my Mk8 GTI parts list!

Good review though - cuts through a lot of the confusion around what exactly you are getting.

Yeah the Brescia's are actually a perfect upgrade for the Mk8 if you're not going for factory fit 19's as they're only 7.5J wide and therefore shouldn't poke out any further than the 18's. Pretoria's on the other hand are 8J wide so strictly speaking you may have an issue with those.

I don't much care for the loud exhaust either. I'd take it if it's there, but it's not something that would lure me in.

I'm a bit disappointed with the interior if I'm honest. I know they may be holding something back for an ED45, but carrying over the Art Velours, as nice as it is, is a bit lazy. Also no red accents, piping, Clubsport badges? Not even a GTi logo on the seats.

Still it's a good value for money upgrade over the standard car. But much like yourself I think the standard car would probably be enough for me.

I was reading some stuff yesterday about the new modern peril of dashcam footage - every police force lets the public upload footage and they can and do prosecute.... makes (extreme) speeding somewhat of a hazard and I question whether more power than 98% of the things on the road actually has any purpose at all now.

Certainly made me think twice about pressing the go pedal now everything you pass could be a stasi informer....

I think VW have realised this- or more importantly they have realised that their customers have realised this.
They offer the base gti with exactly the same power output as the outgoing model ( given that the 230 hasn't been available for a while). That hasn't happened before.

It could be that or it could be the CO2 thing.... they can't afford to have a popular model push their CO2 figures up too much. They sell a lot of GTI's, its an iconic model for them, better keep those numbers down.... it won't change whether people want a Mk8 - the selling point is digital (love it or hate it) and handling (gotta love some handling improvements!)... not power.

But anyway, the stasi informer thing now fills me with dread.... I'm not even a hooligan.... too old to be a hooligan!

Starting to check out the discounts available - my ideal specification is £39,920 OTR according to the VW configurator (trying to keep it under 40k)

Checked Drive the Deal and can get £5,647 discount, which makes it £34,272 - roughly 14% off list.  Not bad at all

You do know that the £40k is based on 'list price' not 'OTR price'?

The £40k 'list price' limit is the RRP, VAT, delivery charges and pre-delivery inspection charges. It doesn't include the first registration fee or the cost of first VED. So on the Clubsport you have an extra £595 to play with. :)

If you go all the way through DTD to get a quote, do you get contacted? I seem to remember running through a quote with them a few years back and had a bloke on the 'phone within half an hour asking me if I wanted to proceed. It may have been that I ticked a certain box on the way through....

I’ve never been contacted by them just by getting a quote.

Really disappointed with that Volkswizard review. More of a brief drive than a review. Tbf he did say he’d be driving it again in January.

What I’d like to know is if the car needs dcc. Didn’t feel that was clear at all. But again, limited time and limited roads. Would have been good to compare against the TCR but that’s probably a video for another day. One thing that surprised me was how good Reflex Silver looked.
