So according to the review this comes from, this car has Nav Pro:

I've looked at hundreds of interior shots and I can't see how that setup is any different to any other shot I could find.

I've looked carefully at how far the entertainment screen extends beyond the (horrible) buttons underneath it - they all look exactly the same.

I am though looking for probably less than 1cm difference between a diagonal measurement of 10cm vs 8cm.
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

Wow! Is that white car a CS?

From the photo if you saw that from 10 feet away you would struggle to see it was a CS or anything special?

Where as a Mk7 CS, with it's special front bumper, wheels & black mirrors speeds past in a blur, leaving an enormous sense of wellbeing that stays with you for the rest of the day! :)

I think that it’s clear that it’s not a regular gti. Tbf I don’t think the Mk8 CS is supposed to replace the Mk7. It’s now a trim level. The Mk7 is an anniversary edition in my head.
Current: Clubsport45, white, DCC.

Past: Mk5 gti blue graphite, mk6 gti carbon grey, mk6 gti edition 35 candy white, Mk7 pp gti tornado red, 2016 Audi S3 sportback, 2019 7.5 Golf R.

Agreed, the Mk8 CS definitely looks a bit more special than a standard GTi, especially with the 19's.

So I found the answer about the NavPro (see the NavPro thread)

I also discovered this comment about the eye watering prices of Golfs...

Quote
The price in Euros has not gone up very much.
The weakness of the pound since 2016 means that VW has to charge more pounds to get the same amount in Euros.

So when the price was £30 k and the pound was at 1.4 euros, VW got 42 k euros for the car.

Now the pound is at 1.1 euros, VW is charging £40 k to get 44 k euros.

Not much inflation in euros over six years!

That actually makes a lot of sense and I had never thought of it like that before.

Not quite sure why I never imagined that crashing the UK economy wouldn't have an effect on things built outside of it....

Just seen it, VW take my money   Good video as usual from him with decent information. Looking forward to the full test drive/ deeper review next year. As I'm sure other viewers can tell, he likes it immediately just from that short drive. Got my test drive booked for the weekend/ next week.

That was a fair review, I'm surprised he didn't really make any comparison of the drive with his own TCR, the lower final drive would be apaarent even at running in speeds?

I have to say the CS just seemed dull aesthetically. I am surprised it doesn't have CS written anywhere, maybe VW learnt their lesson on the take up for TCR side graphics? :)

I specced a metallic, Dcc, 19", Hud CS and it came to £41, 200. That seems a lot of money for a car that looks so bland?
Personal opinion, I am sure some will love the discrete looks of this CS.

I think the aesthetics are coming on the special edition 'cup' or 'ED45' version of the clubsport down the line. I cannot see this Clubsport being the top of the line for the GTI. Thats when you will get the badges/ stickers and a different wheel choice etc

That is a bit misleading though. Back in 2012 when the Mk7 came out the exchange rate wasn't much different to what it is now. Also there are things to deduct off that such as VW UK overheads, distribution/delivery costs and first year tax which are unrelated to the exchange rate.

Obviously there are some VW prices increases too (inflation, wage increases, more tech included "free") but if you look at this graph:

https://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=GBP&to=EUR&view=10Y

You will see the "Mk7 Golf R for a fiver a month" period maps exactly on the exchange rate peak.

Its this period which colours our idea of what an R is worth.
