Yes, heard that, sounds great. Which is more than can be said for the standard wheels! Really don't know what they were thinking.

I agree, it sounds fine in an acceptible way without attention grabbing pops 'n bangs!

On the wheels it's clear what they were thinking?
Let's make the standard wheels bad enough that everyone will have to pay up for the 19" wheel upgrade and DCC while they are on the hook for options? :)

I hate that the only option to ditch them is to go for a 19 too.

Bad enough having to pay to gid rid of those nasty things but then to be lumbered with the cost of running 19's and the ride/performance hit too...

WLTP has a lot to answer for.

Just a bit odd when the 18" Bevederes were standard previously on the CS and TCR.

There are so many little things which put me off the Mk8.

If its any consolation, on the 128ti you have a choice of 18's or 19's - one of each.

At least neither is  and you can choose if you want BS's or PS4's for free.

Purely to force people to pay more and go to the 19"s so the base price is cheaper.

Agreed on the little things, even the VW sales guy in the comments made a comment about build quality not as good as 7.5, or something to that effect.

The extra cost option that boils my p1$$ is the charge for paint. VW will have priced in the cost of painting a car with the ‘free’ colour and it costs no more - or very little more (the cost of a few grams of metal flake in metallic paint, or mica particles in pearlescent paint) to paint a car with one of the extra cost optional colours than it does to paint it the ‘free’ colour. All cars will get primer coat, base colour coat and clearcoat, irrespective of the colour chosen (the exception is Oryx White, where there’s an extra stage in the painting process compared to other colours).

The free colour is often one that’s not popular - remember Black Rubin that was the free colour on the mk7.5 GTI? - so VW know most people will pay extra to have a nicer colour.

I think the Seat approach to paint colour is much better - cost of paint is included in the list price irrespective of which colour you choose.

I have a question around the 18"/ 19" wheel choice. As it looks from the configurator, if you choose either 18 or 19" wheels you get different suspension. I wonder how that will affect cars that are ordered with 18" standard wheels, but are upgraded to 19" wheels after delivery.

Always was the case though - even with factory 19's - you got a car setup for whatever and then you slapped the wheels on.

Sub optimal? For sure.

At least now they are factory tuning it for 19's.
