HELP ..... ACC Not Available
« on: 16 October 2020, 15:27 »
Hi,  I'm hoping someone here will be able to point me in the right direction. I have a 2017 GTI Mk7.5  (ACC radar Behind front badge)  I've upgraded my intercooler, put the car back together now getting this message. I've spoken to VW something to do with alignment want £300. Has anyone else had this issue or know of a garage (West Midlands) who could look at this.

Unsure in terms of re-calibrating if that's definitely required but Midland VW in Cannock would be my preferred place to take it.

Apparently if the front bumper has been removed the ACC radar needs "re-calibrating".
I was going to have the scuffs on the underside of the bumper lip sorted out until I found this out and just thought sod it I'm not paying that.
Seeing as you have got that message it looks like a trip to get it sorted and wallet emptying one too unless there is a workaround.

Exactly - I thought the whole reason for putting the sensor behind the badge was that it stayed attached to front cross-member which was independent of front bumper.

On the old set-up, I had a malfunctioning unit and it was a £650 job to realign if not under warranty. You had to do full wheel alignment first at a £400 cost and then £250 for the sensor itself, afterwards.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Yup I was told by 2 VW body shops that it would need re-calibrating if the front bumper was removed.
It could still be a bs money grab but both were adamant even though my local independent body shop reckoned it mostly likely would be ok as it is only attached to the front cross member but couldn't be 100% certain.

What a load of tosh. When I hit the pheasant in my previous car it totally demolished the hanging bracket the radar sensor sat on. Got it all repaired which meant a new front cross member and then dealer just re attached the sensor. It never needed recalibrated and even when the sensor was slightly lose in its holder all the dealer did was put a bit of felt behind and then clipped it back in. Worked perfectly and at no point was recalibrated.

That's why I said it could be a bs money grab but I wasn't prepared to take the risk just for a few scrapes on the underside on the bumper.

If the car detects a change it'll throw the fault code.
Had that on my 66 GTD.
If you're lucky and get a sensor in close enough to original position it may be OK and not throw a FC.

I had this same message around a year ago on my mk7 even though I hadn’t removed anything.
I read the controller with VCDS,the fault read, power supply intermittent or words to that effect.
I cleared the fault and it’s never returned.
