This is exactly where I thought the performance versions of GTi would go, hence purchasing a low mileage, 3 door, Manual CS with Buckets & Dcc. (#peakgti} :)

This is exactly where I thought the performance versions of GTi would go, hence purchasing a new 3 door TCR with nearly all the options ticked ( #mypeakgti)

Really feel that lucked out with the TCR,

Always wanted a GTI, always danced around it and got the 'other' car, so the GTI badge is the first tick, and it happens to be the end of the MK 7 line, with its full evolution, plus the added TCR styling, the increase in BHP and the other added performance bits and bobs with the Akrapovic thrown in for good measure - if can get a go od deal on a TCR saving more than a few £1000 why would anyone pay more for a MK 8 GTI?

So I thought when they launched the 7.5 TCR, VW suggested the TCR was going to be part of the regular range of GTI's going forward, and the 7 Clubsport was more of a one-off / special edition.

So quite surprised to see the introduction of a new Clubsport... Does that mean the TCR concept has been killed off? Does anyone know if they sold more Clubsport ED40's or TCRs?

More TCR GTI's on the road than CS40 and CSS combined. See below link for TCR and search for the CS and you'll see.

VW announced they were leaving combustion powered racing at the end of the 2019 season so no more TCR or WRC.

Would imagine there are more TCR's than ED40's overall given the ED40 was a limited production run.  3 door TCR's however I would guess are fewer than 3 door ED40's as the window in which to order the TCR was only around six weeks.

If anyone is in the market for a 3 door this is unusual in as much as it's been held back and registered on a 20 plate https://www.jct600.co.uk/nearly-new-cars.aspx?Stock_ID=1233583210&

VW have ditched their association with TCR.... in fact ditched all ICE powered motorsport:

So that is why there isn't a Mk8 called a TCR.

The original intention probably was for a TCR model to be part of the regular range of GTI’s. However, VW announced towards the end of last year that they would be discontinuing all motorsport activity outside of electric vehicles, effectively ending their involvement with TCR (Touring Car Racing). Therefore IMO it would’ve been inappropriate to have a GTI TCR model in the mk8 Golf lineup, and more appropriate to resurrect the Clubsport name for the higher performance version of the mk8 Golf GTI.

Depends if there is an alternative really....

Also depends on whether people see electric as the regular method of transport too....

Motorsport overtook horse racing once combustion engines were a big thing.

Formula-E and MotoE are already a thing in case you hadn't noticed. Its just a bit quieter and the pitstops are 24hrs lol

Interesting stats thanks, both fairly low volumes. That said if the Mk8 Clubsport is sold relatively early in the GTI lifecycle I suspect it'll sell a lot better.

Thanks all for clarifying the status of why no longer TCR, makes sense, but you would've thought the VW board would've been aware they were about to can their combustion motorsport programme before launching the TCR...

Is anyone aware if VW is planning an Edition 45 or will just have the two levels of GTI models? Perhaps the ED40 will be the last anniversary model?
