......well I’ve heard of inflation but that is ridiculous...

Yesterday morning I configured a GTI with Kings Red Metrallic and it was £695 on website
Last night I look at price list and Kings Red Metallic was £755

Are VW hedging their bets

I am definitely liking the leather seat option.

I also thing it’s a conspiracy car makes seem to correct one thing or another that I don’t like, but then change something which I did thus complicating the choice.

Stood and briefly looked at two Mk8s in Listers, Stratford forecourt but decided I wasn’t getting anything useful from a pair of standard models

I scraped the paint colours and prices on page two of this thread:

definitely that has changed in 24hrs.

Looks like its just kings red that has gone up.

I noticed the default colour now is the free (white)

Surely it depends on whether you are actually lowering the unsprung weight? Just because you run seventeen winters doesn't mean it's a lighter combo does it?

Plus people have swapped to lighter forged alloys for years and nobody ended up in a ditch?

I'm no expert, just observing what is written and done.

Yeah it's not going to kill you

Just odd they define one for each wheel size. Normally they'd have to land on a setting with say +/-3kgs of possible difference at least and just blanket apply it.

So it's either they've fine tuned for each wheel or it's relatively meaningless to satisfy WLTP.

Surely WLTP only care if you did swap the dampers for something different??

Although I can't imagine technically how a slightly softer valved damper could make any CO2 difference at all.

I can see how a heavier wheel would.

Sorry Fred, I was just pointing out that configurator and pricelist don’t agree. I know this is hardly a shock but just seems a bit rubbish.

How much more than your current one is that then? And when did you get the mk7.5?

A bit of a brain dump on the subject of the list price of mk8 GTI.

I dare say that part of the reason for the mk8 GTI ‘enhanced’ pricing (or indeed pricing of the entire mk8 Golf range) might be the EU 2021 fleet emissions target of 95g CO2 per km. Manufacturers that don’t hit the target for the fleet of vehicles they sell will be fined €95 per g of CO2 over the target multiplied by the volume of vehicles sold. So there are likely to be some significant fines to be paid by manufacturers with a fleet of vehicles with high CO2 emissions. 2020 is a transition period where the 95g target applies to a manufacturers 95% least polluting vehicles in their fleet. VW may be loading the price of their cars with an ‘emissions levy’ so that the cost of these fines will (at least in part) be passed on to the customer. Add a Brexit no deal into the mix, and we could see some even crazier list prices in a few month’s time.

Earlier this year, VW increased the price of the Polo GTI by over 4% with no change in the car’s spec. It was speculated at that time that the increase might be a way of passing on the cost of emissions fines to the customer that would be levied on VW for not hitting the fleet emissions target of 95g CO2 per km.

I’ve read on some forums that manufacturers have either temporarily suspended or withdrawn production of some higher polluting models to reduce their overall fleet CO2 emissions. In fact, the Polo GTI (159g CO2 / km) is currently only available from stock and has been removed from the latest price list. I’ve read on a Ford forum that production of the Fiesta ST (and possibly the Focus ST) has also been temporarily halted. Will VW limit the number of the mk8 Golf GTI (168g DSG / 169g manual CO2 / km) they build - and other similarly high polluters in their vehicle fleet - and focus production on hybrids and electric vehicles to help them manage their fleet CO2 emissions? Maybe, if they want to limit the amount they have to pay in emissions-based fines. If they do limit production, GTI customers could be in for some long wait times.............

My 7.5 RRP (obviously I got a big discount so I didn't pay that) in December 2018 versus the equivalent MK8 RRP now. Pricing is certainly not as bad as I was expecting...

Charging for the winter pack is a bit cheeky, as is now charging for a rear camera which came standard in 2019 on the 7.5. On the plus side the electric drivers memory seat is now included within the leather price (what VW giveth with one hand they taketh away with the other!)
