I think you'd actually find the price has been creeping up for some time.... its just that you don't notice once you've ordered your car.

I'll bet VW increase the overall cost at least once every year, if not twice.

So KMP, thats at least 2 hikes since yours, lets assume 2 and if we look at the base price (because options tend not to move) we see 3.4% per annum.

Absolutely correct! If I remember rightly my mk5 gti was about £21.5k. It’s £14k more now.

It’s still listed on the Configurator as £33.5k. Not sure how accurate that actually is though.

It's more like 3.3% increase per year allowing for compounding.

Bank of England inflation calculator shows from 2005 to 2019 inflation averaged 3% per year.

Prices from October 2019;-

GTi Performance 5dr DSG =  £33,015 OTR
GTE 5dr DSG = £32,015 OTR
GTE Advance 5dr DSG = £33,815 OTR

So 3.3% sounds like a planned annual increase, we just don't see it like that because we don't buy cars every year, well apart from Exonian

No but I am sure you employer increases their prices of what they sell every year by a few percent because every cost they have (except maybe your wage) increases.

VW being German and the factory being in Germany, almost certainly their wages increase!

BOE inflation doesn't necessarily reflect actual price inflation.

And if it makes you feel any better, I haven't seen a pay rise in almost 10 years

I had a nosey, it seems the site is too busy in the afternoon to even load for me haha.  I have an issue with the alloys, I don't like either, I do like 19s for that bigger look but they really don't float my boat.

Have the darker rear windows disappeared as an option now?  Not the 65% tint, the upgrade that you could have on the MK7
