Clubsport with DCC on 18's - lowering springs
« on: 04 September 2020, 21:09 »
Hello all, sorry if this has been previously discussed but I want to lower the CS, the 18's have too far a gap from the arch for my liking. Would high quality springs do and maintain the comfort as I have DCC ? Also, how much lower would the front splitter be, my driveway is very steep and i doubt i can go much lower?

Are you using the 18” Belvedere wheels still?
Rather than lower the car and risk hitting the splitter or having a harsh ride I’d try spacers first as these will visually help the wheels fill the arches better.
Go 11 or 12mm front and 15 to 20 (per side) on the back if using 7.5x18 ET49 wheels.

The springs kit that I believe are good quality and retain a good level of comfort are the eibach pro-kit.

They won't lower the car much but you can't go too low as the DCC shocks are very susceptible to damage from excessive lowering anyway.

I was strongly considering the spacers, i see that Forge Motorsport do 11mm and 16mm. They are Belvedere wheels, I like them to be honest it's the gap as i say. I think I'll give the spacers a go before doing anything to the suspension. Thanks for the tip!

Regarding spacers, I'd heard that fitting them can (from a ride height point of view) can actually make the car look taller.

This comes from the fact that you always look downwards at an arch gap and the further out the wheels are, the larger the arch gap can sometimes look. That said, I've never fitted spacers to a car as (in my opinion) your simply adding another thing that's got a risk of failure. I know I'm probably overthinking that but just my opinion lol.

If you do go for spacers, get a decent brand (you mention Forge which are meant to be decent) - it's like anything in this world in that you get what you pay for

before and after of mine

Lowered on KW V3 coilovers with 19" 8J ET44 alloys. Only have 10mm spacers on rear, seems to be perfect, i'd like the fronts in if i could like 4mm more but can't get hubcentric spacers that small

The transformation cannot be underestimated. It looks great. I don't have the cash for coilovers right now as i think I'm going to get the paint protection done first
