Doesn't the car monitor the oil and look at miles done and journeys performed ie short journeys. At only 2600 miles it could probably do with a change.

Something doesn't seem right if the service warning has come up after less than a year and so few miles.
Lease cars are set to longlife servicing by default, which means you can go up to 18k miles between services. It does monitor the quality if the oil though and the light can come on much earlier if the driving style and useage pattern isn't suitable. VW suggest that low mileage drivers should go for fixed interval servicing, which the dealer can do, but you have to ask. As far as i'm aware there is no difference between the oil used for a fixed interval service and a longlife service.

Yeah that's right same oil is used for either service regime now.
