Help Oil Service
« on: 23 April 2020, 11:57 »
Hi, I have a 10 month old Golf that's done 2,600 miles on a lease deal.
Its now telling me Oil Service in 5 days and has been counting down each day for the last couple of weeks.
Can this wait until the lockdown has eased or will I invalidate the warranty or lease agreement if I don't get it done?
I do less than 10 miles a week at the moment.
Thanks

VW recent issued a statement allowing everyone to defer a service by up to 180 days. Some places are remaining open for servicing only (as minimal customer interaction is required), or reopening very soon (early/mid May).

Usual leeway is 1 month/1000 miles. You'll be fine to wait, but the reminders will get annoying. My wife's Polo is due a service in 20 days but can't get it booked in right now.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

If the message is getting on your ... then try reseting it. You could tried looking in the manual to see if it shows yoy how to reset it. The dealer will reset it again when they service it.

The Golf R one is like below. Not sure what model you have so check the owners manual

Hold 0.0 trip reset button
Brake off
Continue to hold 0.0 trip reset button
Tap start button
The instant you first see oil change interval reset question, quickly release and press the 0.0 trip reset button

Surely if you’re only using it 10 miles a week the message can’t be getting on your nerves. Lol.

Some VW franchises are still offering servicing, with a collection service to avoid you having to go in. My local are collecting my car early in the morning to take it in for a service for me. They're utterly shafting me financially so it's the least they can do, but it's convenient at least.

QUOTE from VW:-
"If your service is carried out late due to disruption caused by COVID-19, the servicing delay will not invalidate your vehicle’s warranty. What’s most important is to get the service done as soon as you can, so please contact your local retailer to discuss availability and options, eg collection and delivery, and any specific concerns you may have."
END QUOTE

Basically VW are stating contact them & get the car serviced as per normal as most of their service centres are still open....

In normal circumstances its best not to let the car go over 30 days or 500miles past the service date....

Yes, that's what I've read too. Not sure where the 180 day deferral thing came from?

But, if the question had been asked in another way, the car is only 10 months old, so it shouldn’t be asking for a service for another 2 months, not 5 days. I’d say ring your dealer, if you can, and ask advice. If you can’t speak to anybody, don’t worry about it. This is force majeure, or whatever the term is. One way or the other your warranty will be OK.
