foldable to store when not used but fairly rigid when used - bought from local dealer as cheaper than via amazon etc - even has a little jacara cloth finish! £32

On my previous car I replaced all interior bulbs with LEDs that I bought on eBay. This would be a much cheaper option that buying kits that replace the fittings. Is there any reason not to do that? Having red LED footwell lights does seem appealing to me...

The footwell lights do look much better in red! However the oems are not bulbs and the fittings won't take bulbs. You may be able to exchange the led inside for a red led or buy ones like mine which are the complete unit or you can buy oem bulb holders and fit led replacement bulbs.

The red footwell lighting looks even better if you do the rears as well and the active door lights.... :whistle:

If you just replace the bulb in the boot with an led, it doesn’t turn off properly, glowing dimly even when the hatch is closed. A canbus safe led fitting works the same as an incandescent bulb. You could probably get the same effect using a resistor, but the fittings are a five minute swap.
