Kids mostly make a mess with food. The simple solution is not to give them food or drink in the car. If you 'train' them like that from the start, it'll be a good few years before they realise what's going on. The only think that I did was have a tea towel under the car seat.

We had sunshades in both cars. In fact, I kept them in until the eldest was about 7 or 8 as I liked the tinted look, until they complained about having 'baby shades'.

Absolutely agree!! I know to some it may sound harsh but they don't know any better, I have a nearly 3 year old and he still doesn't eat or drink in my car, if we go on a long journey then that's what service stations are for! Happy to report I don't have any protection on my seats and not a mark on them..... just as an added precaution I also take his shoes off so he can kick the front seat all he wants without risk of damage or wear too!!

He may hate me when he gets older!!

My Wife's car has a leather interior so I bought one of these for under the car seat:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01HNY1V0S/

It's been in use for over three years and has protected the leather seat from dents from the car seat, I've got the same one in mine.

If you have cloth etc then totally understand the reasoning but have two say with all my cars I have never ever worried about it. My kids eat etc in the car and I just once a week give it a clean and make sure it's kept tip top.
